Andy's Profile

Previous to working at the House of Commons, I worked in various customer facing and admin roles including Buckingham Palace and the Cabinet Office. With this experience I was successful when applying for a permanent position as a Visitor Assistant at the HoC. My main responsibilities in this role were to greet members of the public and show them into the Palace for tours and overall to help make Parliament more accessible to the Public.

I was successful in my promotion to the Doorkeeper's role this year. The main aspects of the role which attracted me were the prestige I associate with it and the importance the role plays in Parliamentary procedures.

Being a doorkeeper means that it is important to be able to recognise and interact with the MPs. There is also a very important security aspect to consider in my job, ensuring that parliamentary sessions are able to proceed without incident.

At the moment the role is still new to me, Parliamentary procedures can be quite complex and it helps having experienced colleagues to learn from.

Personally leaving school with limited qualifications, I am proud that through gaining experience and working hard, I have found myself in a job that I love. I feel privileged to work for the House of Commons in a role that gives me real pride.
